A liquefied natural gas (LNG) Kenworth T800 truck powered by Westport HD was showcased at the event to demonstrate UPS’ commitment to reduce the emissions of its truck fleet while taking a step toward U.S. energy security.

Westport Heavy-Duty Engine Receives 2010 U.S. EPA Certification

Westport HD 2010 15L engine has been certified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to 2010 emissions compliance. The GX engine is certified and compliant to U.S. EPA 2010 emission limits of 0.2 g/bhp-hr oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and 0.01 g/bhp-hr particulate matter (PM) without the use of emissions credits. Adding to the U.S. certification, Australia’s Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government has certified the Westport HD engine in compliance with the Australian Design Rules (ADR) 80/03, which takes effect for all heavy-duty truck models starting January 2011.

Westport Announces LNG Clean Truck Program Update and Management Transition

Westport announces that as the largest procurement for LNG trucks at the Port of Los Angeles (LA) and Port of Long Beach (LB) (the Ports) edges to completion, Michael Gallagher, President & Chief Operating Officer of Westport, will transition to a new role as Senior Adviser. The South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) in concert with the Ports have previously announced funding for natural gas trucks, which is expected to add up to another 500 LNG trucks to the Ports’ trucking fleet by April 30, 2010. Dr. Gallagher, who has focused his recent efforts around building up the fleet of natural gas trucks at the Ports, will continue to focus on senior international relationships in government and industry including industry boards and associations.

US DOE Announces Recovery Act Funding for up to 2,800 Natural Gas Vehicles

The US Department of Energy’s (DOE) Clean Cities program to reduce petroleum consumption in the transportation sector has awarded $300 million funding for 25 cost-share projects across the US that will deploy more than 9,000 alternative fuel and energy efficient vehicles and build 542 new refueling stations.

PACCAR Australia and Westport to Produce Natural Gas Trucks

Westport and PACCAR Australia announced today that the companies will develop and commercialise liquefied natural gas (LNG) Kenworth trucks for the Australian market. Australia’s Kenworth Trucks, a division of PACCAR, plan to begin factory-installed production in mid-2009 beginning with the T908, K108 and T408SAR truck chassis and roll out across additional models into the future.
